Gabriela is at camp !

Gabriela was given a great gift this weekend and accepted into Camp Opehay, a camp for children with Bipolar Disorder. It is the only one of its kind in the nation, and cost us nothing for her to go. We are thrilled she gets to attend. We dropped her off, and Gabriela was given a bag of goodies (a stuffed animal to hug, a water bottle for drinks, a camp t-shirt, and a craft activity all in this great lightweight back pack. We could tell right away the camp had thought out the needs of these kids including our daughter. They even have a transition program for the kids arriving and when they leave and go back to their parents. Gabriela was very excited to meet other children who were dealing with the same struggles as she does, and to know that she is not the only one in the world with the very real struggle of Bipolar Disorder. We were very pleased with the knowledge of the staff, the nurses, the counselors, the facilities, and the licensed MD Dr Chang who is the medical director, who took time out to answer all our questions. Gabriela is in the Bay Laurel group and was excited at the prospect of swimming, hiking, rock climbing, going on the zip line, and all the arts and crafts they have planned. The camp even has healthy food and moderates sugar intake for these campers where most of them struggle when they have too much sugar. I am sure she will have great stories to tell when we pick her up. Going to camp was something that we did not think was possible, and we are excited to add this great experience.
